2015.09.03 16:35 -Urbex- Searching for Halifax Airport John Doe's Identity
On Friday, October 8th, 2004, members of the RCMP responded to a complaint of human remains that were located in a wooded area off of Highway 102 near the Stanfield International Airport. The investigation to date has not been able to confirm the identity of the individual. We are working to find this man's identity, and bring him home to his family.

2023.05.29 17:07 simplywebby Do most people hate prudes? Or is this a personal thing?
It’s ok to not have a high sex drive, or prefer a modest conservative style of dress, but god I hate people who look at women who like to have fun and slut shame them, and the guys who will call men who aren’t afraid to approach women in public “thirsty” or “simps”
Than there’s the prudes who act like walking up to someone at a bar, park, or out in public is harassment. I’ve been hit on by both women and gay men in public it’s not that hard to respectfully decline someone advances. If they continue despite a no than that’s harassment.
Religious prudes who can’t tolerate the idea of people enjoying casual sex so they try and implement laws to force people to confirm to their prudish morality.
The prudes who understand so little about human interaction they know what implied consent is. These prudes are suggesting that before every sexual act you should ask for permission. While consent is very very important most people understand half the fun of sex is setting the mood, and playing “mother may I” will destroy the mood.
The guys who will call you nasty for going down on a women, but still accept a blow job. The women who think star fish sex is enough to keep a man satisfied. Both of them shit lovers who sit on a high horse and look down at more adventurous lovers.
In short I find these people very annoying, but American culture right and left can be very prudish. What do you think em I alone in feeling this way?

2023.05.29 17:07 lollkizuu High Voltage
So, I started to listen to High Voltage a lot lately, and these lines made me curious and overthink it, these lines:
"And like the rock and rap, "You know what I mean People act like, you know "--Wow, that's a new invention--" That shit's ain't new We're constantly evolving It is constantly changing..."
"There's a lot of change Everybody's always tryna put labels on it It ain't no label for this shit They always gotta try to put a label on it Try to create something, so they can water it down"
Does this have to do something with Linkin Park being labeled as Nu Metal very often? Or Is It just me?
Linkin Park never wanted to be labeled as Nu Metal, so do these lines in 'High Voltage' mean that?

Idk why but this year more than others the ball does not travel at ALL when you stray away from hitter friendly elevation parks. Farthest I’ve hit it’s around 434 and it was a perfect perfect rocket to center barely getting over.

2023.05.29 17:05 sauna_apartment Carless: Escarpment Trail, the Catskills NY
I've been meaning to do this for awhile as I've found the info regarding backpacking without a car in the NYC area lacking, half-baked, or in practice, untrue. The thread in the sidebar is excellent, but AT focused. I'll see a post that say take this bus service to a certain town and taxi to the trailhead, but what it may not say is that there is no service to call a taxi on arrival or that line only runs on weekdays that direction. Not to say I won't be repeating common knowledge as I definitely will, but hopefully you'll find something in my logistics useful for planning your own ventures sans car.
A little bit about me: I am a lightweight backpacker (slowly working on dropping my last few ounces) living in Queens, NY. I generally love the public (and private) transit in NYC metro area, although it always could be improved and there are aspects that are deeply frustrating, large and small. In addition to not having a car, I also work a 9-5 job; this and future trail reports will reflect that I often only have a weekend to enact my plans.
The Escarpment Trail - AllTrails
- Direction: SoBo
- Miles in total: ~26
- Nights: 1
Buy a ticket on the Trailways bus line from Port Authority to Windham, NY. On Saturdays, there is a bus that departs at 8am. That is the one you want. The Trailways' stations are in the bottom of Port Authority, terminals 28-34. Double check your bus is correct with the attendant as the what is on the directory and what terminal they're actually leaving from may be at odds. When boarding, tell the driver that you want the
Escarpment Trailhead Parking lot, which is slightly before Windham; in between Windham, East Windham, and Hensonville; after Cairo; on route 23. If you pass Smitty's Nursery & Landscape on the left you've gone too far. I didn't know you could ask the driver to drop you off at a non-designated stop, but he said it was okay as long as its on route. I'm assuming this is a driver by driver thing, but as long as you're not an ass about it, I bet they'll say yes. However, I did not know this perk until a woman request to be let off before Windham, and I got off with her and proceeded to backtrack to the trailhead on route 23. If you have to walk the shoulder, maybe you can hitch a ride, but you'd be luckier than me.
Make sure you have water. At the trailhead there is a stream. There is no water after that until 0.4 miles past Dutcher Notch, which is ~12 miles away.
Starting from the first sign off 23, the trail is very well marked (until North South Campground), simply follow the blue markers. A commenter on Alltrails writes:
If you can get Wyndham and BlackHead out of the way on the first day the second day is pretty smooth after the initial climb out of the notch. Amazing view after amazing view.
Views translate to ascents. Climbing Blackhead was confirmed steep and arduous after already hiking 9 miles. But this is the hardest climb during the trip, so once summited, it's all smooth sailing. Day 1 clocked about 11 miles (excluding walk to the trailhead).
I camped somewhere on the backside of Arizona Mountain overlooking the valley. It was gorgeous, but unexpectedly buggy for no water nearby and a slight breeze. If you're hiking this in two days one night as I was, you need to get to around the Notch. In the notch, there is an intersection between the Escarpment trail (straight), the Colgate Lake Trail (right), and the Dutcher Notch Trail (left). A short ways down the Dutcher Notch Trail there is a spring (a pipe in the rock) where you can filter water. This is the last place to filter water before North Lake.
Not much to report for the first half of the day; the Catskills are beautiful. There is a very cool plane wreckage. The Escarpment trail gives views to the NorthEast, and often times you can see the Green Mountains, the Whites, and the Berkshires, depending on the clarity. Eventually you'll reach North Point on North Mountain. Here, you'll start to encounter day hikers staying at NorthSouth Campground. I was fairly alone for most of the path; some families at the start, a few day hikers going to Windham High Peak, but very few backpackers. Which imo is preferable; I like the solitude. The frequency of day hikers increased the closer you get to the campground, but most of them were heading out as I was heading in, and only one had a bluetooth speaker.
Reaching North Lake, you are a jungle person breaching civilization. People are grilling and getting stuff out of their SUVs, while you smell and swim in your skivvies. Or at least, that's what I did. After a nice dip, find the blue markers at the back of the campground. There is no more markings for the Escarpment Trail although you're still on it. The signs will say to Catskill Mountain House Site and to Boulder Rock. Stay on the blue markers.
Eventually you'll come to Kaaterskill Falls. I only went to the lookout not the base, as I was unsure how much more walking I'd have to do and I was anxious about the time (around 2pm, the bus back was 5:55pm.) Also Kaaterskill Falls was overrun by tourists, which are different than day hikers. I can't complain as Kaaterskill Falls has been a tourist attraction since the mid 1800s, but after two days in the peaceful woods, I wasn't keen about been around all the activity.
Instead of finishing the Escarpment Trail at Schutt Rd. Parking Lot, take the
Kaaterskill Rail Trail to the Haines Falls Train Station. Its about a 1.5 miles of pathway that brings you back to route 23A. At 23A, take a right and walk along the shoulder for about 2 miles into the town of Tannersville, NY. On 23A, stop at the Twilight General Store for an optional ice cream, however the key stop is
Bear & Fox Provisions in Tannersville. Great selection of beer and cider, one of which the proprietor brews from apple trees from the side of the road.
Catch the 5:55pm Trailways bus from outside the pharmacy (
5980 Main St.), which after a brief stop in Kingston, returns to Port Authority. I would recommend buying both ticket ahead of time as I had varying degrees of mediocre service the whole trip. Day 2 clocked about ~14 miles (including walking to Tannersville)
The Escarpment is great trail for the experiences hiker. Like other Catskill hikes, it's as beautiful as difficult. It's very possible to do it in a weekend, but a slower paced individual or group may want to do it in three days, two nights which may affect bus times and accessibility. Enjoy a carless excursion and remember to bring an eye mask and ear plugs for the bus ride.

2023.05.29 17:05 RoughRoider Gainesville Housing Subleasing
Hi everyone. I'm a student at UF about to graduate, and I have to return home immediately after graduation. Despite this, my lease does not expire until July 31st, meaning I'd have to pay for rent for when I don't need the apartment. The place I'm offering to sublease has a spacious living room (330+sqft), a kitchen with a stove, fridge, filtered faucet, pantry, and microwave as well as tons of cabinets. A laundry room with both a washer and a dryer. The room in question for subleasing has a shared bathroom in the hallway, but the roommate who is supposed to use it is hardly ever present and has nothing inside the bathroom as is. Speaking of roommates, as stated one of them is not there most of the time, and when he is he keeps to his room. The other roommate does the same and is chill, he only cooks and then goes back to his room or leaves the apartment. The bedroom in question has a desk with chair, nightstand, cabinets, closet with two levels for hooks, and a twin bed, the room itself is 140+sqft. The apartment also has a balcony, and the complex has a pool, gym, pool table, ping pong table, dog park, and is right next to Butler Plaza, a shopping center. A bus stop is right in front of the complex as well. Moreover, it costs on $485 monthly, though with utilities it ends up being about 540, but still a great deal. The name of the place is Gainesville Blvd, formerly the Niche, my name is Amaury Quintero, and you can reach me at 786-804-3696. Please let me know ASAP and I can fill you in on any questions you have!

2023.05.29 17:05 Scary_Jacket727 I think I caused myself a hydrocele
Like says the title a few weeks ago I was skewereing and very lightly stirring my left ball. A few days later I was noticing how my ball was softer and bigger that the right one. At first I thought I had done something weird to my ball or maybe I was just a bit paranoid. Today i decided to look into it again, comparung more attentively. Now, I can feel clearly my right ball, soft but firm, and fairly distinguishable in my sack. The left one tho, was not nearly as clear. The whole thing was bigger, but it wasn't just my ball, felt like if my ball was floating in a bag of liquid. I pinched a little to test and indeed I didn't feel my ball until I was pressing a bit more into that weird bubble. I have no pain, and no discomfort whatsoever. My only concern is a possible infection. What should I do? Ofc I know a doctor is the straightest answer, but I would prefer to avoid the expense and the embarrassment if possible. Unless it's a real sign of something.

2023.05.29 17:05 MyNameIsAMeme Jimmy Butler is a bigger foul merchant than Harden, he's actually the best in the league.
| I saw the thread yesterday comparing the FTR(free throw rate) of Harden to Butler and I decided to do some more research on the topic. The results were actually pretty interesting. https://www.reddit.com/nba/comments/13u7dmg/jimmy_butler_has_a_free_throw_rate_of_608_since/ Butler since joining Miami has been Top 5 in FTR twice, 6th once, and did not qualify once due to missed games(would’ve placed Top 5). For the most part his FTR is only comparable to players you foul on purpose. Embiid was the only other player with similar usage and FTR. https://www.basketball-reference.com/leagues/NBA_2023_advanced.html I decided to compare Miami Butler to 2016-2020(Prime) Harden because most people tend to complain the most about the flopping during that time period. I picked a 4 year span for Harden because Butler has been in Miami for 4 years(2019-2023). https://preview.redd.it/gn5227d4as2b1.png?width=1659&format=png&auto=webp&s=add1e08d5ce433b31a1b91ad23ff0c27989bc74f In terms of just attempts at the line Harden clearly has the edge, but that does not really tell the full story. Harden was shooting and handling the ball far more often than Butler. This chart here provides much more context. https://preview.redd.it/edxb9o9aas2b1.png?width=964&format=png&auto=webp&s=463bf10697941b72aa956a728c75b28ad5217af6 Harden was shooting a few more free throws a game, but was also attempting far more shots per game. Just from looking at this chart you can tell Jimmy Butler has a far higher FTR. I saw a lot of people saying “Well Jimmy goes to the rim and Harden just shoots threes,” So I looked into the shooting stats. https://preview.redd.it/qpwkng4xas2b1.png?width=1669&format=png&auto=webp&s=0bc8fcea0bda5fb2b80a0294f286f8aa129f96b5 Jimmy did take a higher percentage of shots near the rim, but that doesn't really matter once you do the actual math. https://preview.redd.it/l6r1c9w3bs2b1.png?width=1671&format=png&auto=webp&s=8a95a6e7f6d9b52bedef36bbc0406ddd8f62d58f Harden was actually taking more shots at the rim and it was only really close for one season. So Butler takes fewer shots by a wide margin of 7.5 shots, shoots less at the rim in comparison to Harden, how does he manage to shoot even close to the amount of free throws Harden was getting? https://preview.redd.it/l9iui06jbs2b1.png?width=1675&format=png&auto=webp&s=faa184432a642e4f9ab856a35131eaa23ba45273 I thought maybe usage could help me understand why Butler was shooting free throws at a higher rate than Harden at his prime but that made me even more confused. Even his USG % isn’t close to Harden. https://preview.redd.it/hv5l4jlrbs2b1.png?width=1673&format=png&auto=webp&s=2d89cecb65e60160548d81586e9727a4ea58fc35 Butler did shoot a lot more often from the intermediate range. Maybe he was just getting fouled quite often in this range. https://preview.redd.it/yxf4m8l3cs2b1.png?width=1675&format=png&auto=webp&s=bfbf1569ea25b0831c47a9a6687b8b417f57aedf It is clear Butler did shoot from this range more often than Harden. Maybe that range is where he gets the free throws. Butler manages to destroy Harden when it comes to Free throw rate and Harden has the reputation of being one of the biggest floppers in league history. I don’t think there is a reasonable explanation for Butler having a FTR comparable to guys who get fouled on purpose like Giannis, Gobert, and Plumlee. Unfortunately, I could not find a leaderboard for highest FTR in a season but .693 in the 2019-2020 season is the highest I have seen from a wing player. LeBron has only broken over .5 once in his entire 20 year career. - Butler has a free throw rate of .608 in his time in Miami, Shaq’s career average was .578
- Shot profile really does not account for the insane difference in FTR between Harden and Butler
- Butler has been the only wing player to consistently be top 5 in FTR for the past few seasons.
Harden has this reputation of being a flopper and being horrible to watch, yet Butler is literally statistically better than Harden at drawing fouls. For his entire Heat career Butler has made 6.85 field goals per game and made 7.2 free throws per game. LeBron has only broken over .5 once in his entire 20 year career. All the stats point towards Butler being a better foul drawer than Harden. submitted by MyNameIsAMeme to u/MyNameIsAMeme [link] [comments] |

2023.05.29 17:04 CordeliaRandom Help Building Confidence
Hello, my pup is an almost 10 month old Shiloh Shepherd, who's struggling with confidence issues. She's always been a shy (and submissive around other dogs) pup in regards to new places, shes never had an issue with people I'd almost say she's too friendly in that regard and quickly warms up to other dogs provided they're not too pushy with her. Her problem is is that she lacks any sort of confidence outside of our property.
She was a great little walking and travel companion from 3-4 months then something happened on a walk when she was 5 months in a fear period that's completely soured her to long walks (I have no idea what it was, nothing stands out to me on that last walk only that one day she was fine the next she refused to go). Now we've slowly started to work up to longer walks even managing a short 3 mile hike the other day, but every time we seem to make progress we then end up back tracking in some form.
Yesterday I took her out on one of our usual shorter walks on a route she's never had a problem with, said hi to our neighbors as we crossed the street she wagged her tail and we kept going, got barked at by a new dog in town which she kinda focused on a bit before moving on just fine and started some self-soothing by taking a long sniff session. Then we passed a house where the owner was doing some work outside and she's not used to seeing people there and I started seeing some tension and nervousness so we turned around. She couldnt stop turning around to look back, while also trying to hightail it home, every two steps she'd stop and look even after we couldn't see that house anymore. Even greeting the orignial neighbors we said hi to (who we see and talk to everyday) just stressed her out even more.
I'm currently trying to keep walks short and fun, turning around whenever i see her start to stress out, while also trying to take her into town once a week (I'd like to go more but she gets horribly car sick so she's on Cerenia which can get a little costly) and just sit in the parking lot to watch the world go by, I dont ask anything from her on these trips if she wants to walk somewhere she sets the direction and pace if she just wants to sit by the car we can do that too.
I'm just trying to find ways to help her build confidence in new situations without stressing her out and causing her to backtrack. Thanks for any advice!

2023.05.29 17:04 ArtoriousTheMystic A close friend appears to be in an unhappy marriage and we worry it could end badly.
tl;dr - Our friend appears to be in a semi-unhappy and possibly emotionally toxic marriage and about to move across the country with them.
My wife and I both play in a D&D group, and one of our friends is in said group. He was not married when we first started but when he did get together with his wife, they did have their wedding surprisingly quick. About 6-8 months of dating I believe. We never thought of it as a bad thing, just seemed fast to tie the knot.
Upon their marriage she joined the group as well and really she seemed nice by all accounts. Eventually we started having our sessions at their place and this is when we started to notice small things that made us worry.
We noticed his wife would ask him for anything so she wouldn't have to leave the couch, or specifically state she wouldn't do a chore or menial task because our friend could do it later. Normally I don't think this is necessarily a bad thing but it would happen everytime we would all come over. She seems to "Steamroll" over his thoughts and just decide something she wants rather than talking about it. Like livestreaming their wedding when our friend wanted it to be a more private affair.
Small example, she had one dog who isn't particularly well trained and kinda chaotic. ie: antagonizing their cats, clumsily knocking things over, jumping up on people, and I've been told has very bad separation anxiety. Our friend had mentioned he wasn't a huge fan but one dog was manageable. Suddenly his wife had brought home a dog from the shelter she was volunteering at and kinda strong armed him into accepting it. He has since expressed to me he can't stand these dogs but "his hands are tied".
She also seems kinda "snake-like" I suppose is the word I'd use. She definitely likes to talk negatively about people she knows and start drama. She had mentioned a girl I had a one night stand with a long time ago in front of my wife, who is well aware of my past, in a roundabout way to cause an issue between us. It didn't of course because we communicate everything to each other but we both thought that was a very odd thing to bring up out of the blue. She also brings up any negative interaction she's had with her husband. Like asking how my wife and I's wedding was, only to tell us how awful or how many things went wrong with their wedding, and in front of our friend who seemed visibly uncomfortable.
Now they are moving across the country to be near Disney World and it feels like we should try to talk with our friend to make sure he's actually okay with all of this or just following along. We don't know their relationship entirely so it's hard to know when should we say something or not. But we worry if we don't it's going to be a long and unhappy marriage, and his friends here won't be able to support him should it turn sour. We don't know the whole relationship which makes it hard, but we care for our friend and don't want to not help him if we can.

Pretty much what the question asks. I hooked up w a guy who lived near me in LA and we had mutual friends from college. He moved to a small town Texas and lives w his family and took over his family business. He flew me out there right when he moved and spent so much $ on me and I knew he really liked me, but we both agreed we didn’t want to do long distance. Then he traveled to Miami to visit his friend a week later and I think my insecurities got the best of me and I ignored him via text while he was in Miami w his friend. He’s since been back in TX and I’ve tried reaching out, but he isn’t receptive and is slow/sending short texts.
